Getting Around Guam – Tips and Tricks for Transportation

Ride the Ducks tour makes a big splashIf you are staying at one of the many hotels in Tumon, you will find transportation to and around your hotel easy.

From the Airport:

Upon arrival, take advantage of a shuttle to your hotel. Rates are very reasonable and you’ll probably be exhausted from your long flight; you won’t want to go through the hassle of renting a car or fighting traffic in a strange location. (And drivers in Guam can be – if not strange, exactly – different than what you are used to.) Most of the popular hotels offer this service but be sure to reserve at least 24 hours in advance.

Taxi service is unpredictable here, so if that is your preference, again, you should definitely arrange one in advance.

Once at your hotel you will find everything you need easily accessible – Tumon Bay, the beach and its gorgeous lagoon are literally at your doorstep. But when you are ready to venture out….

Shopping:

Public transportation can also be unpredictable, but we like the fun, dependable open-air trolley, the Red Shuttle Bus, which takes visitors from local hotels to the three major shopping centers, every 10 minutes, for the low fee of only $4. You can also purchase passes for 1-day, 2-days, and 5-days.

They also provide daily service to Hagatna, weekend rides to the Flea Market in Dededo Village, and every Wednesday evening there is a special shuttle to Chammoro Village for Market Night.

Sightseeing:

Of course, our favorite way to see the sights is with the crazy, zany, Ride the Ducks Land & Sea Tour! This 100% safe amphibious vehicle is modeled after a World War II landing craft and drives right into the ocean and floats! The tour starts in the center of Tumon, and passes historic Hagatna, the new museum, cathedral, Asan WWII park, governor’s offices, boat basin and the ocean port. It is easily the most fun and interactive educational tour you will ever experience. Adults and kids have a chance to drive the boat! There is a multi-language audio system in English, Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Russian, so you won’t miss a word. They even give out “quackers!” Click here to book your tour now!

Nightlife:

Whether you are planning to see the Sandcastle’s Las Vegas-style magic show (with tigers!), the Tao Tao Tasi beach dinner show (with fire dancers!), take in a Big Sunset dinner cruise, or dance all night at the Globe nightclub, many packages include transportation to and from major hotels.

Taxis:

The Beach Bar and Grill is about one and a half kilometers north of central Tumon. That doesn’t sound like much, but you’ll want to make a whole day and maybe evening of it so you’ll likely have bags to carry. Just ask your hotel to call a taxi for you, and ask the restaurant to call one when you are ready to go back.

Renting a Car:

If you want to go here, you’ll probably want to rent a car.

If you want to venture out into the more remote parts of the island, you will probably want to rent a car or even an SUV. Most of the large hotels have car rental services conveniently on site. This makes it easy to rent for only the time you need (and you won’t need a car most days.) The price is comparable to rentals in the USA, although insurance may be somewhat more costly. But we do recommend getting full coverage. The roads can be rough and the drivers can be aggressive! Buckle up and stay safe!
